We finally got our hands on the Goon LP last week and had a chance to sit down to get our hands on this baby to do some short term usability testing. At a glance the Goon LP is beautiful with excellent machining on every part of the RDA. Coming with many accessories the LP overall feels like a premium and well made product.
Some initial details we noticed are the deep and refined logo engravings found on the interior and exterior of the deck, a super nice touch. The deck just looks damn beautiful, so complex but simple looking. The LP comes with many interchangeable accessories which include an ultem top cap, sleeve, and drip tip allowing for a lot of customizability and the bottom cap/sleeve is domed; both awesome.
Unfortunately, a few things don’t match up with the product: the serial number looks completely chinese (same issue with the OG Goon) and the box, for this higher valued, “premium”, and VERY hyped product is also lackluster as it doesn't showcase the beauty of the Goon LP. The OG Goon was unique, different and kind of was cool with the velvet baggy, but a basic chinese flip out box with red velvet? Mmm. We’re not fans.
So now how does this beast vape? We dropped in a Fused clapton by @jonesn_builds and fired it up! Flavor tastes great, but is it phenomenal? No. The O-ring fitment is snappy until juice starts collecting in between the top cap, sleeve, and deck and then everything barely holds on. We definitely CANNOT pick up a mod by holding it up by any of the sleeves. (Losing some points). We thought that the domed cap would really boost flavor, but it doesn’t. 8 screws for the post?!?! Lets just say, the innovative post design and smaller chamber requires patience, and a learning curve, even for advanced users. Due to the small chamber, coils cannot sit higher, thus air flows above the coils, whereas it should sit below or in the middle of the coils.
Overall, the Goon LP is a beautiful, but sacrificed functionality in the pursuit for form.
